Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist administers the activities relating to the Company payroll, benefits and HRIS processing, including developing, implementing and monitoring procedures and processes to ensure all wages, taxes and benefits are accurate.  The individual will be the Company’s subject matter expert with all payroll, benefits and HRIS administration.


  • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees; including reviewing hours from attendance system, entering tax and direct deposit information, administering regulatory requirements, i.e. garnishments, tax levies, support orders and other adjustments as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency.
  • Respond to all unemployment claims in a timely manner.
  • Administer the time and attendance policy for all employees.
  • Produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports pertaining to payroll and human resource requirements.
  • Prepare month-end account reconciliations and supporting journals.


  • Administer all employee benefit programs, including enrollments and terminations.  This includes preparation (or revision) and distribution of materials, conducting meetings to communicate changes to employees, arranging for on-site representation by providers and processing changes within deadlines.
  • Coordinates and conducts the new employee on-boarding; presents benefit presentations to ensure employees gain an understanding of benefit plans and enrollment provisions
  • Facilitates employee off-boarding/termination processes, including exit interviews, severance packages, unemployment, COBRA, etc.
  • Fulfills all governmental regulatory mandates and ensures filings are performed as required.
  • Facilitates paperwork/discussion associated with FMLA, ST and LT disabilities, workers compensation, etc.
  • Participates in both internal and external audits to ensure accurate information for each employee.
  • Facilaites retirement planning related activities, inclusive of participation on the financial committee, support of 401K audits, communication of plan updates, etc.
  • Addresses benefit inquires to ensure timely and accurate resolutions.  Maintains contact with employees and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
  • Processes monthly billings from providers; reviews for accuracy.
  • Administers online COBRA enrollments/changes and responds to and manages unemployment claims and workers compensation cases. 

HRIS Administration

  • Maintains employee personnel files, records and other documentation, including processing new employees, forms for employment status changes and on-going maintenance.
  • Generates files/reports for annual non-discrimination testing for benefits plans, annual reports, as well as other ad hoc reports/requests.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned. 

Requirements & Attributes

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience administering payroll and benefits processes required.
  • Work experience should include knowledge of basic human resources, payroll practices, benefits administration and compliance requirements.
  • Must have previous experience with ADP payroll software.
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources processes and terminology, payroll and benefit processes and procedures, including eligibility and enrollment rules and benefit procedures.
